Honors & Awards

  • Mike Calta Punch-Out #2 Boxing Champion

I was victorious in my epic boxing battle against rival podcaster Jake Hearin of The Crowded Table here in Tampa Bay.

  • "Best Local Podcast

  • I am the winner for "Best Local Podcast" by the Creative Loafing of Tampa Bay. I was nominated by the fans onto the ballot. After 6 weeks of voting, I was announced as the winner at the award shows dinner.

  • Award nomination for "Best Radio Website or Radio Show"

  • My website HoppeRadio.com was nominated for "Best Radio Website or Radio Show". I got to attend the Silver Dome Award Show at Loyola University on October 10th, and came in second place to Radio Depaul. It was an absolute honor and a day I will never forget. I also got to network afterwords with Eric & Kathy, Lou Canellis, Andy Mazur, and David Kaplan.

  •  Most Studio hours

I gathered over 1,300 hours while attending the Illinois Center for Broadcasting. These hours were from my internship at Dance Factory Radio, my radio shows at WNUR 89.3, my shows at school, and everything else I did in radio while attending ICB. I began with the most hours since day one of attending school, and never looked back.

  • Hoppe Hour was voted by the people of Tampa Bay as "Best Local Internet Radio Show" by the Creative Loafing of Tampa Bay.

I grew up in the mean streets of Arlington Heights, IL (the great Chicagoland area suburbs.) I was an awkward only child that didn't really make friends until middle school. And frankly I am finally coming into my own at age 23. But I always have been into radio. When I was in second grade, I got a tour of the former 106.7 the Fish in Chicago (christian music radio) in the Cub Scouts troop I was in. That moment was when I knew I loved radio. So as a kid I began searching the radio looking for shows to check out. I always liked the talk radio shows in Chicago that were either all-talk, or were able to mix in some music. I grew up on such shows as Mancow's Morning Madhouse, Eddie & JoBo, Howard Stern, Opie & Anthony, Steve Dahl, Jonathan Brandmeier, and many more. Frankly, it's unhealthy how much radio I grew up listening to (and I still listen to today.)

So let's shoot forward to June 2012. I graduated from John Hersey High School with Straight C+ grades, but I knew I wanted to go into radio. So I immediately applied for the afternoon slot at WHCM 88.3 FM (Harper College Radio.) My show was absolutely terrible. I was trying really hard to be a "shock jock", and I had an incredibly awful stutter. But I was able to keep the show going from September 2012-February 2013. I was kicked off the air for a rant about why we shouldn't care about the Catholic Church was looking for a new pope. But my program director was a Roman Catholic, so I was screwed.

I was then out of radio for 4 months, wondering if I had burned a bridge that would never be fixed. But I applied for WNUR 89.3 FM (Northwestern University), and was immediately picked up to co-host "The Rock Show" during the summer of 2013. I was getting better on-air but I still wasn't great. But I must have done something right, because I was offered an overnight slot at WNUR 89.3 FM. This was the time of my life.

I then created "The Hoppe & $uperRICH Show" which aired every Sunday from 12-6 AM. It was a mix of FM talk radio, and the best throwbacks from the 2000s. It starred myself, Ryan "$uperRICH" Stuprich, Ryan Risky, and Timmer the video guy. All the archives are on Youtube, and I'm very proud of what I built.

I graduated from the Illinois Center for Broadcasting in August 2014, and now it was time to go from freelancing to finally getting a job in radio. I literally was applying for every job, but I was getting nothing. But the show I liked at the time, Rover's Morning Glory hosted by Shane French in Cleveland was hiring for a phone screener. So I applied, and I immediately made an impact when I tried out for the show. I drove from Chicago to Cleveland to try-out, and it seemed like a dream come true. I was on there from January 2015-March 2015, and was let go from the show.

But the real question is, what am I doing now?

I work in promotions at 102.5 the Bone in Tampa Bay (also as a board operator and phone screener). I am responsible for setting up such promotion events as the pre game festivities for the Tampa Bay Lightning games outside of the Amalie Arena. I also have worked alongside such talents as Seth Kushner, Drew Garabo, Soul Brother Kevin, Spanish, and CarmIn at their public appearances. I also worked the concert for

"Pitbull Toddler" at Hogans Beach in Tampa Bay,

Mike Calta's birthday,

the Bone's various bar crawls,

Tampa Bay Rays opener

Mike Calta Cruise 10

Tampa Bay Lightning Games

97X Next Big Thing 16 & 17

Mike Calta Punch Out 2

102.5 Bone-O-Ween Bar Crawl

102.5 the Bone Dead Celebrity Bar Crawl

Mike Calta Not so Live Gig #1-3

I also am a phone screener and board operator for 102.5 the Bone. I have phone screened for The Mike Calta Show, Roger and JP, A Cat Named Mo Show, Bone Daily Rewind and Drew Garabo Live. I also have run the board for  Roger & JP, Mike Calta, Drew Garabo and NASCAR. I also promote the station on their official Instagram and Twitter accounts while working at live events.

I was the winner in the fight at "Mike Calta's Punch-Out #2" at LBC in Palm Harbor, FL against Jake Hearin of The Crowded Table podcast. It was one of the most surreal moments of my life, I want to thank Main Event Boxing for helping me change my life forever.

I am the host of the award-winning "Hoppe Hour" podcast, out of Tampa Bay. It is a hybrid mix of talk radio, interviews with local and national comedians, and major market radio hosts.

I've had such guests as Charlamagne Tha God, Jim Norton, Danny Bonaduce, Bob Kevoian (Bob and Tom), and 150 others.

Another captivating part of Hoppe Hour is when Ryan Hoppe rants about the news. He believes in 2017 that people are way too uptight, and that the new trend of "Fake Outrage" is sickening. Hoppe presents each show by giving his take, and taking calls at 856-49-HOPPE. He has such segments as "Hoppe Hot Topics", "Classy News of The Day", "Riveting News", "This Week In Idiocracy", and "Last Call".
