Zac Townsend was not able to make it in for the last show of 2016, but that was not a problem as I had a lot of things on my mind. I began the show by bashing David Grisham, a creepy preacher in Texas who was at a mall saying to kids that Santa Claus is fake. Growing up as a Roman Catholic was very boring, but I always loved the charm of the Christmas season. So this rant really hit my heart and I bashed the guy for all it's worth. I played his creepy selfie video of him bothering parents with their kids in line at the mall waiting to meet Santa.
After the commercial break, I read off a list about why the winter is awful. I grew up in the Midwest (Chicago and then Cleveland for 4 months two years ago), so I know how awful the frigid weather can get. I don't see the point of spending this short life bundled up and not seeing the sun for 4 months, especially in Cleveland. Like I always say, no one really likes the winter. You might think you like it because your body is used to it, but living in Florida has changed the way I look at everything.
I then end the show by reading an article that explains why you might be mentally ill if you find the need to brag about working out on social media. I was the guy who was 295 pounds with no sign of any muscle on my body. So I began to lose weight in 2011, I was doing it to "prove the haters wrong". Kids were really mean to me in high school because I was awkward, and I hated myself. So I was trying to overcompensate on social media by fitting in. So I just don't think it's necessary for any Cross-fit member to let us know about the "gains" they have. Just lift, and people will notice the results.
I thoroughly appreciate everyone who listened to Hoppe Hour this year, and helped the brand grow. I appreciate every-time I am given air-time on 102.5 the Bone, or I am mentioned on the local Cleveland morning show I worked on. Any PR in this business is good at the end of the day. We ended the year with 150,000 listens and 59,000 downloads! It means the world to me since I have wanted to go into this business since I was a little kid listening to Mancow's Morning Madnouse with the radio down in my room.
I'm going to be going on a week-long vacation to visit my mom in Chicago, so it will be the perfect way for my to unwind and appreciate everything I've done in two years since moving out of the house. I will be posting what I'm up to on social media at the links below, but I will be taking a break from the show. We will return live in 2017!
